Declutter Your Home: Your Guide to Getting Rid of Stuff Quick

Are you going to be part of the 91% of Americans that will be spring cleaning this year? If you answered “yes” then you are in the right place. We have put together this guide to help you with getting rid of stuff around the home as quickly as possible.

You can start simplifying your life with the tricks below without feeling overwhelmed.

Goals

First, you want to get crystal clear on your goals. Write down which room is most important to you and make a list to help you keep track as you work from most important to the least important room. Once you have your list of rooms next to each room write down your goal of how long you want to spend on each room.

The goals you set do not matter as long as they work for your schedule and you stick to them. Little by little you will begin to see and feel a difference.

Goodbye Garbage

Once you start cleaning each room you will realize how much stuff you have that is actually trash. Take big garbage bags into each room you are decluttering and fill it with all the useless items you find.

These items can include things like dead electronics, broken toys, ripped clothing you don’t wear, and anything you have been holding onto in case you use it one day but, you have not used to date. Once you have all of your garbage out from each room you can make life easier by using a service like Same-Day Rubbish Removal to not have to deal with all the trash.

Donation, Keep, Relocation

In each room set yourself up with stations with either boxes or bags. Each box or bag will have a specific label of either donation, keep, or relocation. Every single item you come across has to go into one of the above stations no matter what.

This will give you peace of mind that everything that is left in that room is being used and it belongs in that room.

Helping You Decide What to Get Rid of

If you are having trouble deciding what to keep and what to get rid of, then it’s time to start being 100% honest with each item before you end up keeping everything. As you pick each item up ask yourself:

  • Is it useful?
  • When was the last time I used it?
  • Is it broken?
  • Do you love it?
  • Does it make you feel good?
  • Can someone else use it?

If you find anything that is broken or does not make you feel good and actually creates negative emotions, these items will go straight into the garbage pile.

Have Fun Getting Rid of Stuff!

Now that you know more about getting rid of stuff – have fun with it! Think about how much neater everything will be in your home. Once you get rid of all the junk that is lying around doing nothing you will feel a weight off your shoulders.
