Want to Treat Your Hair Better? Here Are 5 Tips for Showing It Some Love

No matter what your hair type, moisture is the key to healthy hair. For this reason, your hair care routine should be focused on ensuring that you are providing your strands with as much moisture as they need and not doing anything that removes too much of it.

From the product ingredients you must avoid to the importance of Dubai salon treatments, if you think it is time to treat your hair better, here are five tips for showing it some love.

1. Educate yourself on the products you use

One of the easiest ways to start treating your hair better is to be more conscious of the products you are applying to it regularly. If you have never looked at the ingredients in your shampoo or conditioner, then you may be in for a shock!  The right shampoo for you is going to depend on your scalp type and hair type; however, everyone should avoid hair products that include sulfates and parabens.  You’ll want to look for a great vegan option that provides B12 along with other vitamins for hair growth.

If you have fine hair, you want to avoid products with oils such as argan, coconut, or olive as they tend to be too heavy for your hair and will make it flat and limp. On the other hand, ingredients such as jojoba oil and shea butter are ideal for coarse hair as they can deeply moisturize each entire strand. To avoid generating more frizz, this hair type wants to avoid anything too silicone-heavy.

2. Change up your products and treatments each season

Generally, you want to be switching up your hair products per the changing of the seasons. For example, during the colder months, you want products that are exceptionally moisturizing and hydrating, while in the hotter months, you want ingredients that don’t weigh your hair down, and that can withstand the humidity.

Additionally, treat yourself to monthly treatments at the best hair treatment salon in Dubai (or wherever you reside) to ensure that you are providing your hair with all the love and nutrients it needs. These treatments are an essential part of maintaining your hair’s health as your hair care professional will be able to customize the treatment to your specific needs

3. Commit to deep conditioning

All hair types can benefit from regular deep conditioning as it prevents damage, promotes elasticity, restores natural shine, helps color-treated hair, and adds moisture. Ideally, you want to be deep conditioning your hair at least once a week, as this will significantly help you to avoid damage.

To effectively deep condition, follow these steps. After you have shampooed your hair, you want to towel-dry it so that there isn’t too much excess water. Otherwise, the conditioner won’t be able to penetrate the strands as much, and you won’t be able to receive all the benefits.

Next, apply substantial amounts of conditioner to your roots and comb it through your hair to ensure it spreads everywhere. Next, clip your hair up and leave in the conditioner for up to an hour. Finally, when it comes to rinsing, use cold water to ensure the hair cuticles close, and the moisture remains inside.

4. Refrain from over-washing, over-heating, and over-brushing

When it comes to treating your hair better, you want to find a balance between completely ignoring it and doing too much. In fact, for most women, their hair care issues stem from either over-washing, over-heating, or over-brushing.

Over-washing can be especially damaging for your hair, particularly if you bleach or color it. Each time you wash it, you are stripping the hair of its natural oils that it uses to maintain its health. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you wash your hair no more than three times a week and use dry shampoo in between washes to help with any excess oil.

Similarly, you also don’t want to be taking scalding hot showers as they are more likely to dry out your hair and fade your color faster than if you were showering in colder water. Therefore, opt to have a lukewarm shower to keep your hair and skin healthy and moisturized.

Once you are out of the shower, make sure you are combing your wet hair gently with a broad toothed comb as your strands will be fragile and likely to break. Comb your hair twice a day and do the combing from the bottom up.

5. Rethink what is on your plate

What you eat affects all aspects of your health and well being, including your hair. For your hair to grow and maintain its natural shine, you need to be consuming a balanced diet filled with vitamins, protein (milk, peas, and lentils), and iron (fish, beans, soybeans, and vegetables). Furthermore, you should be drinking plenty of water to keep everything hydrated.
